So Instagram just gave us a major update the other day and I don’t think anyone was ready for what they did. Just when some of us were still trying to figure out how to use Snapchat, we now have Instagram Stories. Not only did Instagram copy the whole Snapchat concept, but I’d like to believe they have made it so much better!
If you are not familiar with what is Snapchat, basically it’s a allows you to share live videos of your day to day life. They have these really cool filters (I’m sure you’ve all seen dog ears and flower crowns selfies all over the internet) that make the app quite enjoyable. Although the app has grown to be quite popular, with all the Kardashian sisters on it, there have been quite a few people who still didn’t get it.
I myself did find the app quite confusing at first but got used to it over time. And although I have an account and follow quite a few people, I wasn’t really consistent with video updates. Reason being I just felt my audience wasn’t large enough and I just didn’t see the benefits, although I do enjoy watching people’s snaps.
Instagram has added the same feature to their app, which I believe will have a very high success rate, considering that there are already millions of people who are using the app and the fact that you don’t have to start from the beginning to build your community is really great. We all the know the admin of using a new social media platform, trying to find people to follow and getting followers is quite a daunting process.
These are my reasons why I’m moving, these will also help you compare the two, to see which one will be good for you:
- Instagram Stories is very easy to use. They have designed it so that anyone can use it, think this will also eliminate the sending of snaps to people when all you wanted was for it to go into your story
- If you are already on Instagram, that means you have a community you are familiar with. You are following people you are interested in and also you have a following of people who like your content or know you. This means you don’t have to keep asking people for their handles, because you will automatically see stories from people you are already following.
- Although the app is missing the cool filters Snapchat gave us, they have the same feature of adding text and also a cool glowing pencil that you can use on your pictures or videos. They do have basic filters when you swipe left though, so you don’t always have to post your stories filterless, we all know we love our filters.
I do believe that Instagram probably has more plans for this new feature in the long run, so maybe we will be getting the cool filters sooner or later. But judging from the number of my followers who are using Instagram Stories, Snapchat might just be in trouble.
